In the spring of 2004, Scott Wiggerman and I founded Dos Gatos Press, a nonprofit dedicated to poets and poetry, especially in Texas and the Southwest. We have published ten editions of the Texas Poetry Calendar, as well as an anthology, two books by individual Texas poets, the first in a series titled Poetry of the American Southwest, and two volumes of Wingbeats: Exercises and Practice in Poetry.
The work we do appeals to the writer in me and the teacher in me. Numerous poetry writing workshops have grown out of the Wingbeats volumes. Though at this stage of my life I think of myself primarily as a writer, I enjoy the work Scott and I do as publishers. Both of us are gratified, too, by the amazing network of fellow poets we have come to know.
