The Art in Fiber

Round Top, TX, Copper Shade Tree, 2011

"Requiem," a poem by David Meischen superimposed on the image of fiber art created by Annie SmithFor this show, three groups of fiber artists created pieces in response to a medium other than fiber. One group responded to a piece of sculptural copper leafwork; a second group responded to a musical selection; a third group responded to a poem. Gerald Tobola, owner of the Copper Shade Tree, asked me to write the poem for the third group. He scanned the fiber art Annie Smith created as a response to my poem, then used imaging software to superimpose my poem over Annie’s fiber art. Here is a small version of the resulting poster.
